Overview

Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) is a two-year undergraduate program designed to impart knowledge and practical skills in the field of medical laboratory technology. The program trains students to become skilled professionals who can operate and manage medical laboratory equipment, analyze samples, and diagnose diseases.


The curriculum of the DMLT program includes courses in medical laboratory technology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, hematology, and blood banking. Students also gain practical training in laboratory procedures, techniques, and instrumentation. The program emphasizes on the development of analytical and critical thinking skills, effective communication, and professional ethics.


Upon completing the DMLT program, graduates can find employment opportunities in hospitals, clinics, research laboratories, blood banks, and public health organizations. Some of the job roles available to DMLT graduates include Medical Laboratory Technician, Phlebotomist, Lab Assistant, Blood Bank Technician, and Medical Technologist.

 

Program Objectives:

The goal is to train a lab technician who possesses the following skills:

•  The ability to conduct various types of pathological tests.
•  Proficiency in conducting various types of biochemistry tests.
•  Competence in conducting various types of microbiology tests.
•  The ability to assist in the processing of histo-cytopathology.
•  Proficiency in performing blood bank techniques.

Educational Qualification:

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board or university. Some institutions may also require candidates to have studied science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) in their 10+2.
  •  Candidate must have completed age of 17 years of age as on 31st December of admission year. There is no maximum age limit for the admission.
  • Candidates must have secured a minimum of 35% marks in their 10+2 or equivalent examination.
     

Duration:  2 years, full time Diploma Course.

The course outline for a Diploma in Medical Lab Technology program typically includes a combination of theoretical and practical courses related to various aspects of laboratory medicine. The following is a general outline of the course curriculum: 


First Year: 


Theory Paper:
Paper – I:

  • General Anatomy & Physiology (Cytology, Histology, Osteology and only basics of all organ systems of body).
  • Only basics of relevant Pathology, Pharmacology & Microbiology.


Paper – II:

  • Clinical Hamatology & Clinical Microbiology-I.
  • Clinical Biochemistry-I.
  • Hand hygiene & prevention of cross infection.
  • Basics life support (BLS) & Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).


Practical:

  • Oral & Practical



Second Year:

Theory Paper:
Paper- I

  • Only relevant surgical & medical conditions (relevant to Lab technician).
  • Clinical Microbiology-II & Biochemistry-II


Paper- II

  • Histopathology & Cytopathology.
  • Blood banking & Biomedical waste management.


Practical:    

  • Oral & Practical
